Peter Ian Martin

born 1957

Peter was born on 7th Feb 1957 at Shooters Hill Hospital, Woolwich. He went to school at Hurst County Infants and Juniors then went to Bexley & Erith Technical High School for Boys, in Bexley. He left school with A levels in French and Economics and joined the banking industry.

He married Trudy Middleditch on 18th December, 1976 and brought their 2 daughters into the world: Erika Paula Martin (b 29 May 1978, Chatham, Kent) and Lisa Marie Martin (1st May 1980, Chatham, Kent). They divorced in 1982 and Peter married Jacqueline Candy (b 22 May, 1955) and they lived in Chelsfield, Orpington, Kent.

Peter worked his way up in banking to become the youngest foreign exchange dealer, so young that the Bank of england had to give special permission for him to trade. He gained lots of experience of the money markets and of business in general and he and Jackie moved to a flat in the Barbican, London.

By 1998, they had moved to their house in Salisbury and Peter decided it was time to leave the city. So he and Jackie achieved their long-held ambition: to run a tea shop! They did this successfully in Salisbury, but within a few months Peter was getting 'itchy feet'. Never one to do anything by halves, Peter set off in early May on a charity walk, from lands End to John O'Groats, going up the west of the UK - with detours up and down mountains and across coastal bays. He finally arrived in mid July and had the blisters to prove it!

Shortly afterwards he raised money to buy The House of Sarunds - a distribitor of Belgian chocolates which supplied his and Jackie's Salisbury tea shop. It has expanded rapidly and sustainably and has been one of the fastest growing food wholesale business in the south of the UK.
